 Title:                          Volunteer Manager                

 Responsible to:         CEO/Executive Director

 Status:                       Full-time, Exempt

 Job Purpose:              Provide creative vision, leadership, and oversight of Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita volunteer initiatives, ensuring that our Program and Development departments have appropriate support.

 Essential Functions:

Routinely assess alongside RMHC Wichita staff, the volunteer needs and opportunities within RMHC Wichita’s scope of work.

  • Provide key leadership and coordination for the following volunteer initiatives: Program needs, meal and work groups, fund raising events, and outreach activities.

Be a liaison to the community, corporations and individuals interested in volunteer service at RMHC Wichita.

Recruit, screen, and interview potential volunteers.

Organize and conduct general orientation for new volunteers.

Support volunteer on-the-job-training, and the assessment of volunteer performance through close collaboration with RMHC Wichita staff.

Identify and develop in-service training opportunities for volunteers as needed.

Ensure pro-active and on-going cultivation of existing volunteers.

Identify volunteer needs of RMHC Wichita and appropriately match volunteers with need, communicate with staff about volunteer schedules and volunteer abilities as needed.

Maintain master volunteer schedule and support staff in coordinating openings and substitutions as necessary.

Maintain and update volunteer program manual, informing RMHC Wichita staff on any policy information changes as needed.

Update and maintain volunteer management database and files that includes information on volunteer profiles: special interests, skills, commitment and performance.

In conjunction with the Technology and Communications Manager, produce a volunteer update/communication for RMHC Wichita volunteers once a year (or as determined by annual strategic plan).

Develop and implement volunteer appreciation initiatives annually.

Work closely with the Development Manager to ensure the success of the volunteer component of each fundraising event.

Cultivate and manage a portfolio of donor relationships.

Assist the Development Manager with acquiring sponsorships and donations

Ensure appropriate, timely and adequate reporting of volunteer and donor relationship actions and information in the database.

Submit reports to the CEO/Executive Director regarding volunteer service hours and activities.

Assist with coordination and support of RMHC Wichita’s Red Shoe Society and its volunteer board and general membership.

Prepare annual volunteer budget.

Serve as staff liaison for the volunteer committee as well as other Board committees that have a volunteer component.

Responsible for volunteer section of the Strategic Plan and implementation.

Keep VolunteerMatch, as well as other volunteer opportunities websites, up to date.

  • Use VolunteerMark as the primary database for recruitment, retention, and calendaring.

Other:

Carry out such other duties and responsibilities as the CEO/Executive Director may designate from time to time.

Expenditures:               Authority to purchase within approved budget

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years prior experience managing volunteers.
  • Must have experience in developing fundraising and volunteer management strategies and evaluating results.

Passion for the mission of RMHC Wichita.

  • Excellent written and oral commmunication skills and a strong desire to work with people.

Must exhibit good organization and planning and be able to provide direction and leadership.

  • Must demonstrate good judgment, good decision-making ability, creativity and dependability.

Proven leadership, time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and initiate solutions to problems.

Competency in a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as an ability to quickly learn and operate agency volunteer database(s) applications.

  • Must have physical ability to lift supplies (up to 50 lbs)

 Must be able to climb stairs.

  • Must provide own transportation.
