RMHC Wichita helps families with children who are undergoing medical treatment. We have two Ronald McDonald Houses and one Ronald McDonald Family Room. In addition to the Houses and Family Room, RMHC Wichita has a Grant program that funds other children’s non-profit projects that contribute to the health and well being of children throughout designated counties in Kansas.What is a Ronald McDonald House?
The Houses provide safe, temporary housing, amenities and emotional support for sick children and their families. RMHC Wichita makes 7,300 nightly stays available at our two Ronald McDonald Houses each year. We ensure that we will be there to provide as many as 20 families each night with a “home away from home” while their children receive medical care. Each House has ten guest rooms, private bathrooms, large kitchens, laundry facilities, comfortable living areas, nutritious food, and the comfort of someone that cares.Who can stay at the Ronald McDonald House?
The families of ill or injured children 21 years of age or younger who are receiving medical treatment in Wichita. Families must reside 30 miles from the hospital to stay at Houses.Where are the Houses located?
The Midtown Ronald McDonald House is located north of Via Christi Hospital - St. Francis at 1110 N. Emporia. The Sleepy Hollow Ronald McDonald House is located east of Wesley Medical Center at 520 N. Rutan. Each House is in walking distance of their designated hospital and a city park.Can a family reserve a room at the House?
A social worker or medical staff member at the facility where the child is being treated must make a referral. Parents may call to check on availability after the referral has been made. A criminal background check will be completed on all adults staying in the House. Adults must present current photo identification at check-in. If the House is at full occupancy, we will place families on a waiting list.How much does it cost to run the two Houses?
It cost RMHC Wichita $80 per night per bedroom.Do families have to pay to stay at the House?
We request families contribute $15 per night. However, no family is ever turned away from an inability to pay.What are the hours of operation for the Houses?
Our Houses are accessible to families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A House Manager is available 24 hours a day to manage daily issues or emergencies that might arise. For general check-in and reservations we accept families from 8am – 9pm 7 days a week.Are meals provided?
Volunteers provide meals on site several times per week. Volunteers and individuals also donate food for our pantries and families can help themselves to any food in the pantries.What if I don't have transportation to the hospital where my child is admitted?
If your child is at Wesley Medical Center and you are staying in the Midtown Ronald McDonald House, Wesley Medical Center provides taxi vouchers for use to and from the hospital once each day. A nursing mother may have two vouchers per day. Both Wesley Medical Center and Via Christi Hospital – St. Francis security departments partner with RMHC Wichita to provide safe transportation for House guests from the House to their respective hospital if they are unable or uncomfortable walking.How long do families stay at the Ronald McDonald House?
A family can stay at the House for as long as their child is receiving medical treatment in Wichita. The average length of stay is 7 days; however, some families need to stay for months at a time.What is the Ronald McDonald Family Room?
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is located in Wesley Medical Center adjacent to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In the Family Room, local and out of town families will find food, personal care items, laundry facilities and a comfortable place to rest and regroup just steps away from their hospitalized child’s bedside. Each year over 1000 families use the Family Room.Who can use the Ronald McDonald Family Room?
Any family who has a child 21 years of age or younger receiving medical treatment in Wesley Medical Center.How much does it cost to use the Ronald McDonald Family Room?
There is no charge to use the Family Room.What is the relationship between McDonald's and RMHC Wichita?
While McDonald's is a strong and much appreciated partner, RMHC Wichita is neither owned nor fully funded by them. McDonald’s customers show their support by donating change in the restaurant donation boxes and participating in other in-store fundraising efforts. McDonald’s contributes roughly 5% of RMHC Wichita’s budget. Each year this support varies and is never guaranteed.How is RMHC Wichita funded?
RMHC Wichita is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. We host a number of fundraising events throughout the year, and actively pursue grants. The majority of funds come from community support through individuals, businesses, churches and organizations. Additional community support comes from donation of pull tabs and wish list items. RMHC Wichita is not a United Way funded agency.How many families are served through the organization?
