By becoming a monthly donor with RMHC Wichita, you help provide more than just a place to stay — you offer comfort, care, and the peace of mind families need during a medical crisis. Your ongoing support ensures that parents can stay close to their hospitalized child each night, without the burden of wondering where they’ll sleep or how they’ll manage.
Together, we can heal hearts — one family at a time.
The mission and services of RMHC Wichita are needed more than ever to support rural Kansans and their families with sick or hospitalized children. As rural physicians retire, and as 15 rural hospitals are at risk of closing their Labor & Delivery units, RMHC Wichita has seen a dramatic increase of families traveling to Wichita due to their child’s healthcare needs, including premature babies.
In 2024, RMHC Wichita provided 133 nights of hotel stays for families when our 20-room House was full. Through only the first half of 2025, 426 nights of hotel stays have been needed. The consequence of not providing a place to stay for families could result in financial hardship for families, many of whom are from rural KS, when their child is hospitalized for weeks or months. While we evaluate options to expand the capacity of Ronald McDonald House, we estimate that hotel expenditures, which are negotiated at a reduced rate, could reach $80,000 in the 2025 calendar year.
